Web design
A website thatdoes a job.
Designed and built by one person, for small businesses who need the thing to bring in work — not win an award. Fixed price, one to three weeks, and you own every file at the end.
Design is a word that's been worn smooth. Here's what I mean by it.
What design means here
Structure first.Decoration last.
Most bad small-business websites aren't ugly. They're disorganised. Everything the business does is crammed onto one page, the phone number is in an image, and the thing a customer came to find is four scrolls down underneath a slideshow.
So I start with what someone is trying to do when they land — book, call, get a price, check you're real — and build the page around that. Then it gets made to look like your business. That order matters, and it's the reason the sites work.
- One page per thing you do. Not a list of services on a single page. A real page each, so there's something for Google to match and something for a customer to read.
- Designed on a phone first. Most of your customers will never see the desktop version. It gets designed at 390 pixels wide and then grown, not the other way round.
- The words written for you. You send me voice notes, a rough list, whatever's easiest. I write it. You correct the bits where I've got your trade wrong.
- A contact path that can't be missed. Phone, form or booking — visible at the top, repeated at the bottom of every page, and working at eight at night.
- Fast, because slow costs you. Hand-built and light. No page-builder framework loading two megabytes before anyone sees a word.
That's the thinking. This is what actually lands in your hands.
What you end up with
Included in everybuild, whichever size.
A wordmark, if you need one
Your business name set properly. Most small businesses don't need a logo so much as their name treated with respect. It's included, not an extra.
A colour and type system
Chosen to suit the work you actually do, and written down so anything made later still matches.
Photos handled
Cropped, colour-corrected and compressed so the site loads fast. If you haven't got good ones, I'll tell you exactly what to shoot on your phone.
Forms that reach you
Enquiry or quote form, tested, landing in an inbox you actually read — not a website dashboard you'll never log into.
Built to be edited
Clear structure, no mystery plugins, nothing that breaks if you change a price. You or anyone else can pick it up later.
Search work at the same time
Not sold back to you in three months. The search side is done during the build, because retrofitting it is the expensive way.
Want the step-by-step? Twelve steps from the first call to the day it goes live, and exactly what I need from you.
How it worksWhether any of that suits you depends on what you do.
Who it's for
Two kinds of business,mostly.
I've narrowed deliberately. Knowing an industry means I already understand what your customers search for and what they need to see before they'll ring you — which is most of the work.
Trades
Plumbers, sparkies, builders, fabricators, mobile trades. A page per service, pages for the areas you cover, and a quote form that works after hours.
Beauty and hair
Salons, lash and brow techs, makeup artists, barbers. Online booking on every page, your treatments as real text, and your Google reviews live on the site.
Anyone else
If you're neither, ask. I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person, and point you somewhere better if I'm not.
So, the number.
What it costs
$1,490 to $2,890.
Fixed, quoted before we start, and it doesn't move once we begin. The difference between the numbers is how many pages you need, not how much attention you get.
Already have a site? There's a $450 fix-up if yours is worth keeping — and I'll tell you honestly if it isn't.
Have a look at yours first. It's free, and it might save you the money.
Start here
Send me your site.I'll tell you what I see.
Twelve checks, written up in plain English, free. You'll get something useful out of it whether or not you ever hire me — including the fixes you can do yourself without me.
No website yet? Easier again. Book the call and we'll work out what you need.
